How do you grow Maitake?

- Cut the logs. Maitake grows almost exclusively on Oak species.
- Treat the logs. There are three methods to treating log segments.
- Inoculate. Once the logs are cool, they are ready to inoculate.
- Incubate.
- Bury the logs.
- Mushroom harvest.
How long does maitake mushroom take to grow?
Maitake grows slower than many other types of mushrooms. After your first harvest, you might need to wait for 6 weeks or more for the mushroom clusters to regrow. It can take a couple of years for the log to fully mature and start giving a good crop.
How do you inoculate Maitake?
We’re going to be fruiting out some of our blocks. That we have in our incubation. And specifically maitake is one of the trains that we’ll be working with and here we have some maitaki grain spawn.
How long does a hen-of-the-woods take to mature?
Our strain was cloned from the South Carolina Botanical Garden in Clemson, SC fruiting on White Oak. Hens take longer to appear than other mushroom strains, the mycelium is very slow growing and can take 2-3 years to fruit, but once it is established will appear for many years after!
