It is impossible to sprint through the stones and the gates. The shout Whirlwind Sprint needs to be used, but only once you have sprinted through all three stones. Between the first two gates are pull chains to open the preceding gates.

Head out and on to the Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood. Speak to Delphine and request the attic room. Head to sleep only to be woken by Delphine, at which point she finally relinquishes the horn and also initiates the quest, A Blade In The Dark. Return to High Hrothgar once you can and present the horn to the Arngeir.

The Horn is located in the ruin of Ustengrav, which Arngeir marks on your map. The simplest way to reach Ustengrav is to take a carriage to the town of Morthal, then travel the marshes on foot. The ruins are due northeast of the town.

After presenting the horn to Arngeir, when he performs the ritual that formally recognizes the Dragonborn as a Dovahkiin, any followers that may be there will not die, even though it is said that even a whisper could kill anyone who is not prepared.
