How much horsepower does a JB4 tune add?

Do you need JB4 with MHD?
No, you need MHD to load custom tune. You will not need JB4. So you either do JB4 BEF + MHD or you yank JB4 out and just use MHD with their flash options or get a custom tune. Remember you can still get custom BEF to keep JB4 if you want, but personal opinion yank JB4 and go custom flash.
What is a backend Flash 335i?
A backend flash is an ECU flash tune designed to generally control fueling and timing amongst other things, leaving the piggyback to control boost, maybe some fueling and maybe some meth.
What can MHD do?
As a quick background, MHD offers OTS (off the shelf) flash tunes for the N54. Flash tunes essentially re-write the ECU/DME to target more aggressive boost. Flashing the DME also gives the tune full control over fueling, ignition timing, AFR’s, etc.
Can BMW detect a piggyback?
BMW can see engine parameters up to and at the point of failure, which means if you’re running a piggyback, the parameters won’t be within stock ranges and they will know.
Can you leave MHD plugged in?
Wont hurt if you leave it over night or one – two days but still, dont leave it connected at all times! I would not recommend leaving it plugged in as it will constantly draw power.

What’s the difference between a jb4 and a back-end flash?
The back-end flash shifts the timing, VANOS, and fueling to the flash side while the JB4 retains its more accurate boost control, in-dash gauges, E85 autotuning, and various safety features. If the piggyback JB4 option isn’t right for you, we highly recommend opting for the N54 MHD flash tuning app. We’ve written a few other posts regarding MHD.
Should I tune my N54 to jb4 or MHD?
The N54 map packs must be purchased for $49 each (you only need one, unless you want more options). All things considered, the MHD is an excellent tuning option for the N54. Ultimately, as referenced above, we recommend opting for the JB4 and coupling it with the MHD back-end flash maps.
