What are Elves in The Hobbit?
Tolkien’s legendarium, Elves are a fictional race inhabiting Middle-earth in the remote past. Unlike Men and Dwarves, Elves are immortal. They appear in The Hobbit and in The Lord of the Rings, but their history is described more fully in The Silmarillion.
How did the Elves awaken?
According to a legend of the Elves, the first Elves were awakened by Eru Ilúvatar near the bay of Cuiviénen. The first Elf to awake was called Imin (“First”). Next to him lay Iminyë, who would become his wife. Near where Imin woke, awoke Tata (“Second”) and Tatië, and Enel (“Third”) and Enelyë.
How do Elves reproduce?
For Elves, marriage only requires the “act of bodily union” and the invocation of the name of Eru. Marriage often occurs early in life, and frequently between childhood sweethearts. This is the case in Aman, at least. Elves avoid the conception of children in times of war, or when parents face a long separation.
How did the Elves come to Middle-earth?
Some Elves in the First Age living near Angband died from a wasting disease, which was presumably issuing from Thangorodrim, Morgoth’s fortress. The Elves came into existence before Men, and when Elves die they pass to the Halls of Mandos in Valinor.
Why do Elves glow?
The movies did provide the Elves with a glow which seems to have been a means of showing their relative strength & purity of spirit; you notice it with Galadriel in particular. When some of the Elves are asking the Valar to interpose, the glow seems to emanate from their bodies.
Is Sauron an elf?
