ABOUT AZA. Our fraternity, AZA, is named with the Hebrew letters Aleph Zadik Aleph and stands for Ahava, fraternal love, Tzedakah, benevolence, and Ahdoot, harmony. These are some of our core values. For generations, young men have called themselves “Alephs” as part of our international brotherhood.
What is BBYO mission?
BBYO aspires to be a safe and welcoming community where teens develop their own personal Jewish identity. The teen-led programming is fun, with an emphasis on connectivity between young Jews across the globe.
Who founded AZA?
1923. Fourteen boys in Omaha, Nebraska, USA form the Aleph Zadik Aleph (AZA). Abe Baboir is elected as the first president and Nathan Mnookin is the first advisor.
How many BBYO members are there?
Organizational model. The organization is active in more than 40 regions, in Europe, South Africa, Australia and North America. BBYO has more than 25,000 members and over 250,000 alumni, as well as about 800 volunteer advisors. BBYO connects Jewish youth with their cultural Jewish roots.
Can non Jews Join BBYO?
BBYO welcomes Jewish teens of all backgrounds, denominational affiliation, gender, race, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status, including those with a range of intellectual, emotional, and physical abilities.

Whats the difference between AZA and Zaa?
The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) was founded in 1924. The Zoological Association of America (ZAA) claims to have been founded in 2005, but appears to have just been an idea that never really took off until the Lowry Park Zoo, under leadership of Lex Salisbury, lost its AZA accreditation in 2008.
