What kind of leather should I use to make a journal?
For the covers I like to use a soft, flexible calf leather that’s about 1.5-2mm (3.5-4oz) thick but I know some prefer to use a thicker material. If you can, go to a store to buy the leather so that you can handle the piece before buying it. In the US, Tandy Leather is a good resource and they have many locations.

- Put a piece of scrap paper just inside the outer paper to protect the pages from glue.
- Get the book all lined up.
- Put glue on the paper, but leave a 3/8-inch gap near the spine un-glued.
- Close the cover on the glued paper and press firmly for a minute or so.
- Repeat on the other side of the book.
