San Diego Resident Membership, valid only for those who live in San Diego County, is $95 per adult (age 18-64) and $85.50 per Senior (age 65+).

You’ll need to purchase $4 worth of tokens to ride the skyfari one way. (I decided to hoof my down the hill.) If you buy tokens, your change will be returned in $1 coins. I recommend spending these coins in the park.
Is the Skyfari aerial tram free?
It is pricey. $54 per person. That does include a 30 minute tour on a double-decker bus and the Skyfari aerial tram (that is high overhead across the breadth of the zoo).
Do seniors get a discount at the San Diego Zoo?
Ages 65 and older are eligible for a 10% discount off the regular 1-Day Pass ticket price. Students ages 12 and above are eligible for a 10% discount off of the adult 1-Day Pass ticket price. Neither can be secured online. A photo ID needs to be presented at a Zoo ticket booth window to be eligible for the discount.

Riding the tram is no extra cost. The caravan safari tour cost extra but it is worth it. From the free tram you can see some of the animals but in the caravan safari tour you are among the animals and get to feed giraffes and a rhinoceros if you wish. If you are looking to save money the free tram is the way to go.
