Can you drive up Mt Kaukau?
Driving to the Mt Kaukau Track You can drive here and park on the side of the road. Note: there is no carpark, so you will need to find space on the street. Try Truscott Ave and Woodmancote Road if you need close streets to park on.

Wellington’s Skyline Walkway is an end to end track that’s less than 15km long. You’ll get some epic views, including some of the CBD, yet you’ll feel like you’re hours away from the city.

Description. There are three routes up to Rangituhi/Colonial Knob, offering a loop walk taking from three to five hours. One starts at the Broken Hill Road carpark (at Spicer Botanical Park).
How long does it take to walk up the Gondola?
The full track between the Gondola and Lyttelton takes around 90 minutes with parking on the Gondola side.
Can you walk to the luge?
Take the Gondola up to Skyline. Follow the walking track up to the Luge and take the signposted track to the Paragliders. Pass the reservoir and keep walking uphill till signposted to Lower Ridge Track.
Is Colonial Knob open?

Do you have to book for the gondola?
Yes you will need to make a reservation as at times the Skyline dinner can be booked out. The best way to do this package is to buy the Gondola, Dinner & Haka which is $110 per Adult and $54 per Child, then purchase your Luge rides when you arrive.
How long is the bridle path walk?
2.4 km long
The track is a 2.4 km long walk that ascends to the 333 metres (1,093 ft) high summit takes about an hour to walk in one direction. The number 28 Lyttelton/Rapaki bus can be used to connect between the ends of the walk.
Can you do Luge without gondola?
No. The Luge tracks will not take you down to the Gondola base. You will complete all Luge rides at the end of the Luge track which is at the Skyline complex. Once all Luge rides and other activities are completed, you can then take the Gondola back down to the base.
What does Rangituhi mean?
sky glow
Rangituhi, means sky glow, and offers views of Cook Strait and on clear days the Kaikoura Range to the south, Waikanae to the north and Mt Taranaki in the north-west. The hill is mainly covered by regenerating native forest (most of the original rimu and rata has been logged) and grasslands.

Is the bridle path hard?
The trail starts in Heathcote at the car park between the Gondola and the Lyttelton tunnel portal. Be prepared for a good workout as it is a steep walk but the views from the summit are well worth the effort.

Enjoy this 2.5-mile loop trail near Martinborough, Wellington. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 1 h 7 min to complete. This trail is great for hiking and walking.
Do I have to wear shoes on the luge?
Do not put your feet outside of the Luge cart, unless completely stopped, as injury may result. Footwear must be worn at all times. Use the brakes to slow or stop the cart!
Does body weight affect the luge?
Size Since luge is a gravity based sport, in general, it’s beneficial to be somewhat taller and heavier. The extra weight helps propel the sled as it accelerates downhill; but having said that, the extra weight needs to be lean, muscle weight as opposed to adipose tissue (fat weight).
