Is Double Island privately owned?
In April 1998 it was taken over by a group of local businessmen who converted it into an attractive and accessible boutique resort. It was subsequently converted into a private resort complex which is only available on a whole-of-island booking.
What happened Double Island?
Double Island (Wangal Djungay) was the location of an exclusive resort, but has been closed to the public for years. In 2012, Benny Wu from Hong Kong bought the island lease and plans a $10 million upgrade to the island’s resort for wealthy tourists.
Can you swim to Double Island?
The south side of Double Island Point is not patrolled by lifeguards, so you and your family must swim safely in the protected waters of the island. The water here is warm and a bright blue, making for a fun time swimming in the sea!
Do people live on Double Island?
The island apartments are self contained, and guests staying with us can arrange for their apartments to be stocked prior to arrival, or alternatively following their arrival they can access a wide choice of shops and food outlets at nearby Palm Cove village, by taking advantage of our boat transfer service.
Why is it called Double Island?
Double Island Point is a sandy spit found in the Cooloola National Park. It’s not actually an island in any way, but rather the end of sand dune that extends into the ocean. From a distance, the point can appear to look like two islands, which is how it earned its name many years ago from Captain Cook.
Can I take my car to Dunk Island?
Being an offshore island, Dunk Island can only be accessed by boat or ferry. These ferries/water taxis depart from Wongaling Beach and the trip only takes about 10 minutes. Update: Unfortunately the water taxi has stopped operating to Dunk Island as of 2022.

The best way to kayak to double island, is to head to Palm Cove and head over from there. You will find parking at the south and north end of the esplanade. The paddle is around 20 minutes from Palm Cove beach.
