What is an infect deck MTG?
Infect is a hyper-aggressive deck based in perhaps one of the most infamous mechanics in the game: Infect. The archetype is present in Legacy and Modern.
How do you play against infect MTG?
Infect is good at playing around removal. It has cost-efficient spells that both defend against kill spells and tack on secondary effects (unblockability, pump, etc.). One way to beat that is to overwhelm an Infect opponent with removal spells, but this is often card-intensive and forces you to keep mana open.
How much infect kills a player?
In Modern or Legacy, an Infect player needs to reach 10 poison counters to win the game. In Commander, an Infect player needs to reach thirty poison counters to win the game.
Can you block infect?
Damage from a source with infect can be prevented or redirected. Abilities that trigger on damage being dealt will trigger if a source with infect deals damage, if appropriate. If damage from a source with infect that would be dealt to a player is prevented, that player doesn’t get poison counters.

Infect has been powerful in almost every constructed format, with one exception: Commander. While not unpopular by any means, Infect simply does not translate well to Commander. It feels like a mechanic that totally circumvents inflated life-totals should thrive, but the reasons it doesn’t are myriad.

Modern Horizons has had an enormous impact on the Infect strategy in particular with the addition of Scale Up. How is this card one mana? This spell allows for many turn 2 and 3 kills that were formerly difficult if not impossible after the banning of Gitaxian Probe.

Yes. The damage is still damage, and any triggered abilities based on damage will trigger. The only thing different is the effects of the damage, since you gain poison counters instead of losing life.
Do you take damage from infect?
Damage from a source with infect is damage, even though it does something different from other damage. Lifelink, deathtouch, and abilities that trigger when a creature deals damage will all work as normal, and the damage can be prevented or redirected just like any other damage.
Can infection destroy indestructible?
Damage dealt with infect is able to kill Indestructible creatures. This is because sources with infect deal damage to creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters, which eventually can reduce the creature’s toughness to 0 or less.
Does proliferate work with infect?
Proliferate interacts with infect, as well as with charge counters, so it makes lots of sense in the set.
How much infect is lethal?
How Many Poison Counters Is Lethal? Per the Comprehensive Rules 104.3d, if a player ever has ten or more poison counters, they lose the game. This rule has been changed for Two-Headed Giant games where a team loses the game if they have 15 or more poison counters.
Can you Lifelink off infect?
Yes, the creature’s controller will gain life. Infect and Lifelink are both abilities that modify how damage is dealt. They’re not exclusive in any way; they just mean that the damage dealt has some effects different to what damage normally does. They can happily coexist.

Does Hexproof stop Deathtouch?
Because deathtouch does not target a creature, hexproof won’t protect a creature from deathtouch. Instead, the hexproof creature will just be dealt damage normally and be destroyed as a result.
Does first strike beat Deathtouch?
First Strike happens before the Deathtoucher even gets to deal damage. First Strike will win. The angel will deal lethal damage to the vampire in the first combat damage step.

Even though an indestructible creature isn’t destroyed by lethal damage, that definition is still used for things like assigning trample damage. If a creature with lethal damage on it stops being indestructible, it’s destroyed the next time state-based actions are checked.

If a creature with deathtouch has zero power, it can’t deal damage and thus cannot destroy an attacking or blocking creature.
