Exalith is a super-hard, 10-micron thick rim coating. The technology adds to the wear life of aluminum rims, and allows Mavic to machine tiny grooves into the rim itself, increasing braking friction. It also colors rims a carbon-esque anthracite black.

Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels are one of the most popular upgrade wheelsets around, with a good reputation for reliability, quality and easy servicing. The current Mavic Ksyrium Elite UST wheels feature a wide internal rim width of 17mm as before but now has the tubeless ready capability.

This means the Elites don’t need any rim tape as there are no spoke holes in the upper rim; it basically looks like a tubeless rim, although it’s presumably not entirely sealed as Mavic makes no claims for this.
