What is the ACEA oil classification?
Unlike the API, ACEA has three main groups – “A/B”for petrol (A) and light duty diesel (B) engines, “C” for light duty three way catalyst (TWC) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) compatible oils, usually Low and Mid SAPS (Sulphated Ash Phosphorus Sulphur) and “E” for heavy duty diesel engines.
What does the ACEA specification relate to?
ACEA is an advocate for the automobile industry in Europe, representing manufacturers of passenger cars, vans, trucks and buses with production sites in the EU. Specifications are important as these indicate the performance of the oil and whether they have met or passed the latest tests.
What does ACEA C3 mean on oil?
ACEA C3 oils are Top Tier lower SAPS1 lubricants. They are designed for use in high performance gasoline and light duty diesel engines where advanced aftertreatment systems such as Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) and Three Way Catalysts (TWC) are used.
What is the difference between ACEA C2 & C3?
ACEA C3. Same as C2 except for HTHS > 3.5 and without Fuel Economy performance.
What is the difference between API and ACEA?
“Compared to API specifications, ACEA specifications have more of a focus on low viscosity, stay in grade oils with extended drain intervals which [are] rated for engines meeting Euro IV /Euro V emission requirements, and running under very severe conditions,” adds Antonio Ramos, manager, marketing with Veedol.
What does ACEA A5 B5 mean?
ACEA A5/B5 oils are Upper Mainline lubricants. They are designed for use in high performance gasoline and light duty diesel engines that are specifically designed to use a low viscosity oil. These oils may be unsuitable for use in some engines.
Can I use ACEA C3 instead of A3 B4?
C3 fulfills all the A3B4 requirements, so it should be alright. Due to the lower SAPS content you could think about replacing the oil earlier.
Is ACEA C3 better than C4?
C4 is a lower “SAPS” (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorous, Sulphur) specifically compatible with exhaust after-treatments such as DEF. C3 actually has better lubricity properties (because SAPS are a good thing extreme-pressure-wise), but may effect emissions.
What does ACEA A3 B4 mean?
ACEA A3/B4 oils are Upper Mainline lubricants. They are designed for a use in high performance gasoline and light duty diesel engines and are typically used in newer vehicles as they provide the minimum performance demanded by many OEM specifications.
Can I use ACEA C3 instead of A5 B5?
ACEA C3 will be fine.. You wouldn’t want to run A5/B5 in a car that had a catalytic convertor but the other way around is fine. Make sure weight and blend is right (5W-40 fully synthetic IIRC?) and you’ll be fine.
Can I use A3 B4 instead of A5 B5?
Both these are “petrol and light diesel service” type oils. While you can use a diesel specific HDEO (Heavy Duty Engine Oil) like Mobil Delvac 1 or Amsoil 5w40 Turbo Truck, it is a bit of overkill for a relatively smaller engine like the 1.3 DDIS / MJD. So the A5/B5 or A3/B4 manufacturer spec is just fine.
Is ACEA C4 better than C3?
C4 is a lower “SAPS” oil (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorous, Sulphur) specifically compatible with exhaust after-treatments such as DEF. C3 actually has better lubricity properties (because SAPS are a good thing extreme-pressure-wise), but may effect emissions.
Can I use ACEA A3 B4 instead of B3?
ACEA Engine Oil Specifications:
ACEA A3/B4: Stable, stay-in-grade Engine Oil intended for use in Passenger Car & Light Duty Van Gasoline & DI Diesel Engines, but also suitable for applications described under A3/B3.
What is ACEA A3 B3 oil?
ACEA A3/B3 oils are Mainline lubricants. They are designed for general usage use in a wide range of gasoline and light duty diesel engines. ACEA A3/B3 oils are typically used in older vehicles as they do not provide the minimum performance demanded by the latest OEM specifications.
