The Northumberland Coast Path starts in the pretty village of Cresswell at the southern end of Druridge Bay it then hugs the Northumberland Coast taking in the fishing town of Amble and the villages of Warkworth, Alnmouth, Craster, Seahouses before reaching Bamburgh, a village dominated by the mighty Bamburgh Castle.

This popular walk runs between this two lovely villages in the Northumberland Coast AONB. It’s about a 3 mile coastal trail so 6 miles there and back. The route takes place on a fairly flat section of the St Oswald’s Way long distance trail.

What you can’t see until you’re right on it, is the river which cuts Alnmouth off from the beach. Apparently at low tide you can wade across it, otherwise its a pretty long walk round.

Hello – You could drive round the island in an hour but as you us the word leisurely I would say that to allow either half a day or a full day would be ideal. If you simply want to drive round and stop every now and again to see the view or get a cup of tea from one of the many cafes it’s the half day option.

Travelling around the Coast by Bus Despite being very rural, the Northumberland Coast AONB has an excellent bus service to most of the villages and tourist attractions. The principle bus route through the AONB is from Alnwick to Berwick-upon-Tweed or Belford.
