How much does it cost to join the Directors Guild of America?
The regular (non-low-budget) initiation fee is $13,416 (updated annually on July 1). If you join as a low-budget director, you simply pay the additional $9,916 when you do a “regular” project.

How many days do you need for DGA?
A minimum of 350 production days must be worked in that time period. DO I HAVE TO HAVE PRODUCTION EXPERIENCE TO APPLY? Experience is not required, but a candidate must have a strong and committed interest in film production.

How hard is it to get into the DGA?
The two-year New York Assistant Directors Training Program accepts, on average, 250 to 300 applicants each year, and five to seven are accepted into the program. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. A four-year degree and some industry experience are recommended but not essential.
Do DGA trainees get paid?
As a professional work training program, when a Trainee is assigned to a production, s/he becomes an employee of the production company and is paid specific wages as set forth in the DGA collective barganing agreements. Trainees are also enrolled in a health insurance plan, at no cost.
