Why is it called chasco?
It is based on the fictional legend of Queen Chasco and King Pithla, a Spanish boy and girl who are captured by Calusa Indians – borrowing their names from the Pithlachascotee River that winds through New Port Richey. Known to locals as simply “Chasco”, the event extends across two weekends in March.

What is the Chasco parade?
Named for Queen Chasco of the Calusas, it features an Indian powwow and pageant, river and street parades, a king and queen coronation ceremony, a ball, a carnival, arts and crafts, musical entertainment, and food. 78 years old, it is Florida’s longest running festival.
Is Chasco Fiesta free?
Entry Fee: For 2021 the Chasco Fiesta will have a $5 entry fee, except Monday. Children under 12 are free. The last Saturday and Sunday entertainment shows will have an additional fee for reserved seating to the concert.

Are dogs allowed at Sims Park?
Sims Park is protected by New Port Richey’s very first ordinance, and because of Ordinance One, the park will remain the people’s park forever. Dogs are welcome in the park and around Orange Lake on a leash.

Sims beach is not a designated swimming beach. This area features a 1,100-foot sandy shoreline with an 18-hole disc golf course, picnic facilities (covered and open) and parking.

Founded in 1922, Chasco Fiesta is the oldest annual festival in Florida. It includes a carnival, Native American Festival and nightly live entertainment.
